Shaun Yancey
Senior Managing Associate
Shaun Yancey is an experienced federal sector employment law attorney and serves as the Senior Managing Associate at our firm. He concentrates his practice in all areas of federal sector employment law, including employment discrimination, wrongful termination, disability retirement, retirement benefits, position classification appeals and reasonable accommodation requests. He has represented clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Office of Federal Operations (OFO), Merit System Protection Board (MSPB), Office of Special Counsel (OSC), Office of Personnel Management (OPM), State Court and Federal Court.

Mr. Yancey's expertise enables him to deliver effective and efficient counsel in teh defense of local and national clients regarding claims involving discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge, adn adherence to federal and state statutes. Mr. Yancey routinely advises employees on day-to-day employment issues, including guiding clients through investigations conducted internally in their respective Agency or by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Mr. Yancey received his Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law in 2010, with Honors in Pro Bono Service. While in law cshool, Mr. Yancey served as the President of the Health Law Society, and was the recipient of the Emory Public Interest Committee ("EPIC") grant when he interned at the DeKalb County Public Defenders' Office.

Following law school, Mr. Yancey worked at King & Spalding, LLP in their Discovery Center from 2010 through 2011. In 2012, Mr. Yancey received a Masters in Taxation from the Georgia State University Robinson College of Business, where he graduated with Honors.

Mr. Yancey joined Melville Johnson, P.C. in 2013 as the Senior Associate. In that position he manages the retainer accounts of the firm's clients and supervises the work of four associates, providing quality control.

Mr. Yancey has won removal and retirement appeals before the Merit Systems Protection Board, and discrimination complaints before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  Further, Mr. Yancey has informally resolved many employment matters to the benefit of the respective clients.

Mr. Yancey is a current member of the Gate City Bar Association, and has volunteered for a number of charitable organizations and non-profits, including Advocacy for Action, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, the Emory Alumni Board, and the Democratic Party. He has also been a member of the National Black Lawyers Top 100 since 2019.

Mr. Yancey chose to pratice federal employment law because of his strong desire and passion to defend people in need.  Many federal employees are unaware of their rights and how to appropriately assert them.
